Dunia kesehatan, pengobatan dan medis bukanlah sesuatu yang asing bagi kita. Mungkin kita sudah sering bersentuhan dengan hal-hal medis dan kesehatan. Yang masih agak asing adalah penggunaan istilah medis dalam Bahsa Inggris. Oleh karena itu pada kesempatan ini kami tim allenglish.info akan membagikan beberapa istilah-istilah dunia medis dalam Bahasa Inggris.

Istilah Kesehatan dan Medis dalam Bahasa Inggris

abnormal = tidak normal untuk tubuh manusia. Contoh : This weight is abnormal for girl of your age.

ache = sakit atau nyeri yang susah hilang. Contoh : Jonathan can’t sleep last night because his back ache in the night.

acute = akut, parah. Contoh : His lung cancer were acute.

allergy, allergic = alergi. Contoh : Martha is allergic to peanuts.

ambulance = ambulans. Contoh : They called an ambulance when George had an accident.

amnesia = amnesia, suatu kondisi yang menyebabkan seseorang kehilangan ingatan. Contoh : She can’t remember the accident because She had amnesia.

amputation = amputasi. Contoh : The doctor had to amputate his leg.

anaemia, anaemic = anemia, kondisi saat tubuh tidak memiliki sel darah merah yang cukup. Contoh : He has low energy because He is anaemic.

antibiotics = antibiotik, obat yang membunuh bakteri dan menyembuhkan infeksi. Contoh : Her teeth infection went away after She started the antibiotics.

anti-depressant = obat anti depresi. Contoh : The anti-depressants helped her move on with her life after her father died.

appointment = pertemuan yang sudah dijadwalkan dengan tenaga medis. Contoh : We have an appointment with Dr. Smith tomorrow.

arthritis = radang sendi. Contoh : My grandfather can’t go to the rice field anymore because the arthritis in his legs is so bad.

asthma = asma. Contoh : He always carries an inhaler to work because He has asthma.

bacteria = bakteri. Contoh : It is important to wash your hands to prevent the spread of bacteria.

bedsore = sakit karena pasien terlalu lama di tempat tidur. Contoh :His grandmother develop painful bedsores because of lying in bed too long.

benign = tidak berbahaya. Contoh : They are hoping that the tests will show that the lump in his lung is benign.

biopsy = biopsi, pengambilan jaringan tubuh untuk uji medis. Contoh : To find out what the disease is, biopsy has to be performed.

blood count = jumlah sel darah merah dan putih dalam tubuh manusia. Contoh : Her blood count is almost back to normal.

blood donor = donor darah, orang yang mendonorkan darah. Contoh : To be a blood donor, you have to answer questions about your medical history.

blood pressure = tekanan darah. Contoh : High blood pressure is not good for your health.

brace = penahan bagian tubuh yang cidera agar tetap pada posisi yang benar. Contoh : He  probably  have to wear a brace on his ankle when he walks.

breech = sungsang. Contoh : The doctor thought it was going to be a breech birth.

broken = patah. Contoh : His leg was broken after that car accident.

bruise = luka memar. Contoh : The man was badly bruised when he came into the emergency room.

caesarean section, c-section = operasi caesar. Contoh : The baby was so large that the doctor had to perform a caesarean section.

cancer = kanker. Contoh : Smoking may lead to lung cancer.

cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) = tindakan pengembalian nafas dan sirkulasinya, pemberian nafas bantuan. Contoh : It is useful to learn CPR.

cast = pembalut lengan atau kaki yang patah. Contoh : I can’t attend the party because my leg is in a cast.

chemotherapy = kemoterapi, salah satu tindakan pengobatan pasien kanker. Contoh : My grandmother has already had three months of chemotherapy.

chickenpox = cacar air. Contoh : Children often attacked by chicken pox.

coroner = petugas pemeriksa sebab kematian seseorang. Contoh : I work as a coroner in a public hospital for five years.

critical condition = kondisi kritis. Contoh : She’s in critical condition.

crutches = tongkat untuk berjalan bagi pasien yang cidera kaki. Contoh : After that accident, she has to use crutches for a month.

cyst = kista, nanah. Contoh : The doctors are going to remove the cysts.

deaf = tidak bisa mendengar, tuli. Contoh : The car accident left the patient deaf.

deficiency = kekurangan. Contoh : The tests show that she has a calcium deficiency.

dehydrated = keurangan cairan, dehidrasi. Contoh : In this hot weather, it’s easy to become dehydrated.

dementia = kehilangan kapasitas mental, gila. Contoh : There are many factors that cause dementia.

diabetes = diabetes, sakit gula. Contoh : My father has diabetes, so He has to constantly check his blood sugar levels.

diagnosis = diagnosis. Contoh : I don’t understand the diagnosis explained by the nurse.

discomfort = merasa sakit. Contoh : This injection will relieve your discomfort.

disease = penyakit. Contoh :  This disease only runs in his family.

dislocated = dislokasi, salah letak. Contoh : His shoulder was dislocated after that train accident.

emergency = darurat. Contoh : In case of an emergency, dial 911.

ER (emergency room) = IGD, instalasi gawat darurat. Contoh : We bought him straight to ER once he stopped breathing.

external = bagian luar tubuh. Contoh : This cream is for external use only.

family history = latar belakang keluarga. Contoh : The doctor was concerned about my family history of diabetes.

fatal = fatal, menyebabkan kematian. Contoh : Having a wrong prescription is a fatal error.

fever = demam. Contoh : There are many disease that indicated by a fever.

flu (influenza) = flu, pilek. Contoh : People who have the flu should not close to children.

fracture = fraktur, patah tulang. Contoh : Her wrist is fractured and needs a cast.

germ = kuman, mikroorganisme penyebab penyakit. Contoh : Germs can spread through flowers.

genetic = genetik, keturunan. Contoh : The disease is genetic.

growth = bengkak. Contoh : That growth on your neck is starting to worry me.

heart attack = serangan jantung. Contoh : Smokers are at higher risk of having a heart attack.

HIV = virus penyebab AIDS, HIV. Contoh : HIV can be passed through the use of shared injection.

illness = istilah umum untuk penyakit. Contoh :  My illness went away when I started eating better.

immune system = sistem kekebalan tubuh. Contoh : Because her immune system is low, she can’t have visitors.

immunization = imunisasi. Contoh : Every baby has to have immunization.

incision = sayatan ketika operasi. Contoh : The incision was 10 cm long.

infant = bayi. Contoh : When visiting a patient in the hospital, infant are not allowed.

infection = infeksi. Contoh : The wound is now infected.

inflamed = meradang, bengkak.  Contoh : My elbow was so inflamed.

injury = cidera, luka. Contoh : She only got minor injuries from that accident.

intensive care unit (ICU) = ICU. Contoh : She has to stay in the ICU until she can breathe on her own.

internal = bagian dalam tubuh. Contoh : The doctor suspected him to have an internal bleeding.

itchy = gatal. Contoh : My skin were itchy after I ate the roasted peanut.

lab (laboratory) = laboratorium. Contoh : I work in the laboratorium after I graduate from school.

malignant = sel kanker yang cepat berkembang. Contoh : The doctor afraids at least one of the tumours is malignant.

medical school (med. school) = Fakultas Kedokteran. Contoh : I never planned to enter a med school, but my parents insist.

numb = kebas, mati rasa. Contoh : The injection makes me numb.

OR (operating room) = ruang bedah, ruangan operasi. Contoh :  Soon he will be moved to operating room.

pain = rasa sakit. Contoh : I had drink the medicine but the pain won’t go.

pain killer = obat penghilang rasa sakit. Contoh : I need a pain killer for two days.

paralyzed = tidak bisa menggerakkan bagian tubuh, lumpuh. Contoh : Her legs were paralyzed after she fell from the roof.

pharmacist = apoteker. Contoh : My cousin works as a pharmacist in Jakarta.

pharmacy, drugstore = toko obat, apotek. Contoh : Buy a cast at the pharmacy !

physician = dokter. Contoh : Ask a physician before taking this medicine.

poison, poisonus = beracun. Contoh : The man was bitten by a poisonous snake.

prenatal = periode sebelum melahirkan. Contoh : There are  prenatal classes available for public every Monday.

prescription = resep obat. Contoh :   He need to visit his doctor to get another prescription.

residency, resident = residen, dokter magang. Contoh : Samantha is a resident under Dr. Watson.

routine check-up = pemeriksaan kesehatan. Contoh : I have to see my doctor for a routine check-up.

scrubs = seragam tenaga medis di rumah sakit biasanya berwarna biru atau hijau. Contoh : The doctor have some extra scrubs in his locker.

side effects = efek samping. Contoh : One of the side effects of this medicine is a headache.

spasm = kejang. Contoh : He have muscle spasms in his upper thigh.

specialist = dokter spesialis. Contoh : My doctor is sending me to a specialist.

sprain = cedera, tidak separah patah tulang. Contoh : I sprained my wrist playing football

sting = nyeri sementara. Contoh : It may sting when the nurse inject you with medicine.

swelling, swollen = bengkak. Contoh : My legs were swollen after I played football.

symptoms = gejala. Contoh : Anxiety is one of the symptoms of depression.

transplant = cangkok organ. Contoh :  The kidney transplant saved my mother life.

umbilical cord = tali pusar bayi. Contoh : The doctor decided to perform an emergency C-section because the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck.

unconscious = tidak sadar. Contoh : She was breathing but unconscious.

vein = vena, pembuluh balik. Contoh : The nurse is looking for the best vein in which to insert the needle.

vomit = muntah. Contoh : My wife vomit almost everyday when she was pregnant.

wheelchair = kursi roda. Contoh : She has to use a wheelchair for several weeks.

wound = cedera, luka. Contoh : The wounded policeman is being taken to the hospital.

x-ray = x-ray, rontgen. Contoh : The technician took x-rays of her shoulder to make sure it’s alright.
